Have a sweet tooth? Cake Fetish is the place for you. Cake Fetish Cupcakes is located on the northwest corner of Louisiana and Menaul. This little bakery offers cupcake for a quick sweet snack, cupcakes to go for the whole family or order cupcakes in advance for those special occasions.
Cake fetish offers 12 varieties available daily as wells as different specialty flavors depending on what day you visit.
The half dozen I choose was Puker Up, Inside out German Chocolate, Peanut Butter Cup, Sleepless in Albuquerque, Grasshopper and Cafe Ole. The first delectable cupcake I tasted was called Pucker-Up! which consisted of moist vanilla cake and a lemon filling, then topped with a candy lemon slice. The butter cream frosting was sweet without the overwhelming sweetness of most butter cream frostings you will find at the grocery store.
The inside-out German Chocolate is a chocolate cupcake with a pecan filling, chocolate butter cream frosting sprinkled with toasted coconut. Sleepless in Albuquerque, my husbands favorite, consisted of chocolate cake with mocha butter cream, chocolate gouache and an espresso bean to top it all off.
The grasshopper is a peppermint and chocolate flavored cupcake with green mint butter cream frosting drizzled with chocolate. Cafe Ole is available on Tuesdays. It is cinnamon cake with cappuccino butter cream sprinkled cinnamon and a coffee bean. The Peanut Butter Cup was my favorite of the bunch. It had peanut butter in the butter cream frosting, chocolate cake and a few peanut butter chips on top.
Prices were very fair, $1.75 for a single and $10.50 for a half dozen. If you are looking to try a variety of flavors at a reasonable price, try the cupcake minis at $6.50 a dozen, can’t beat that.
The customer service was great and the interior was modern and clean. I went in right before closing but the cupcakes still fresh as if they had just been made. It is nice to see a specialty bakery in Albuquerque doing it right.

I love the little cup cakes from this place!
My husband and I tried it, the cupcakes were ‘fine’ but nothing to write home about. However I am glad to see anything non-chain do well in the food world here.
I got a dozen for my sons 13th bday after reading great reviews. i ordered them special, so they were supposedly fresh and they were bland, flavorless, and DRY! I HATED THEM! ALL 12 of them were bad. You know if three days after the birthday, there are still 9 in my fridge, even my kids hated them! And kids will eat just about any cupcake!I want my money back!

The place did use to be great – but some out-of-towners bought it late last year and have trashed the place. I’d take them the other 9 and get your money back. I went recently and found out about the sale. Such a shame!

FYI-
The owners as of August ’07 are from Abq. They have stayed true to the original owners recipes and have almost all the original staff still working there.’
Cake Fetish cupcakes must remain refrigerated because the real butter buttercream will melt in the heat (also a health department requirement).
They must be doing something right since they are opening their 3rd location this month wiht lots of loyal customers from in town and out of town.
FYI: A new location opened up on the westside right next to the Riverside Plaza.

Frosting containing butter does not need to be refrigerated, nor is it a requirement of the health department. Cake Fetish freezes their cupcakes so they can mass produce them and pull them out as needed. That’s why they’re so dry.
I tried the cupcakes and my biggest pet peeve was that the cake was dry. Chris, you are correct, you need not have to refrigerate buttercream frosting. I was quite disappointed by the cupcakes. Why spend close to $2 for a cupcake that is completely dry and flaky???
Cupcakes are really good & I’ve liked them ever since they first opened but man it must be going to their heads because their service has been crapping for the last several months. Especially at the downtown location that girl is so outright rude. Customer service training?
Also overly priced. I completely agree with Evonne. Again must be going to their heads.
Never again. First time I tried this place, that WOW. – until I tasted the cupcake, Sleepless in Albuquerque – DRY,DRY,DRY. Time went by like 3-4 months, gave them another chance. This time went in with my girlfriend Julie, we order two fresh cupcakes (there said), same results, same results DRY, DRY, DRY. Never ever again. good luck
To bad…they sure look good though.
I’ve tried this place a few times and their cupcakes are “cute” just not delicious. The good thing is they have lots of different flavors but if you want a cupcake that is really good and moist, try out Just a Bite on San Pedro and Paseo Del Norte- THEY have good cupcakes that are bite sized also.
Weird! I LOVE THESE CUPCAKES! The cakes are good too! I’ve never thought they were dry but whatev. I’LL keep going there.
It’s true, I heard that the new owner did start freezing them. I actually asked them once how they kept up. I thought maybe it was only for Holidays, but the last few times someone has brought these to our clinic (drug reps LOVE to buy us unhealthy food…LOL), they have been very dense and dry. Does anyone do it the old fashioned way anymore? And I agree that the service has gotten apathetic at best.
These are the best I have ever had including Sprinkles. I was there for about an hour, couldn’t stop at one and watched as they baked, iced and put into the display case-I would call that fresh, not frozen. Took some home and left them on the counter and guess what-the icing did start to melt so I guess that is why they keep them in the cooler. They were more moist at room temp though. I will go back in fact maybe tomorrow,
Several years ago they used to be really good. I got two dozen for a birthday party, and they were a big hit. However, I’ve tried them twice in the past year, and both times they were dry and tasteless.
The cup cake was dry and I say the cupcake because we only bought one. we went in to buy enough for our sons class but the owner was so rude we took our business elsewhere.
Cake Fetish did a wonderful job on my wedding. Every guest complimented the cupcakes. I have a feeling these bad reviews are coming from the competition because Cake Fetish is the best in town. I shopped around before the wedding and Cake Fetish is far superior to the competition.
