Cuba New Mexico restaurateurs Bruno and Hazel Herrera bring their talents to Albuquerque. El Bruno’s has taken over the old Gardena’s on 4th/Paso and have renovated it into a quite beautiful gem in the North Valley. With multiple seating areas, a nice patio and a water feature, El Bruno’s has starting things off right here in Burque.
Since New Mexico Tourism Department listed El Bruno’s on the “Green Chile Cheeseburger Roadmap”, I felt obligated to give one a try. The burger served with fries, was a nice size, had a grilled bun and topped with melted slice of American cheese. The chile on top looked promising; it had hints of red color and roasted char, two signs that this is the real stuff, not over processed chile you find in the grocery store. The burger was good, but the chile ruined it for me. It lacked any sort of heat, think roasted bell peppers.
Overall El Bruno’s was good experience, the food was Good, the ambiance was Great and the service was fine. I it was a bit overpriced, but that is common for these far north valley destination restaurants.
