Lumpy’s Burgers is a walk up burger joint that took the old Taco Phil’s location on west central. After hearing multiple rave reviews, I decided it was time for a green chile cheese burger.
The menu is simple – pick your burger (1,2, or 3 patties), pick your fries (chips, thin cut or thick cut fries) and pick your drink. All the toppings are included with the burger, so I settled for a Lumpy burger with green chile, cheddar cheese, mayo and onions.
If you get fries there are some baskets with regular and sweet potatoes next to the ordering window, you pick out your potato and hand it over with your order. The potato’s are cut to you specification and fried. I tried the sweet potato chips and the regular cut fires, both were good, but definitely a bit on the greasy side as you would suspect from homemade fries that are not double cooked. Despite the grease, It was certainly a nice change from the par-baked, frozen and coated fries you find a the typical fast food joint today.
The burger (2 patties, 1/2 ounce) was served in a giant warm soft bun. A pile of hot green chile was encapsulated with cheddar cheese and onions. It was great, the chile was hot and there was plenty of it. The cheese was even more abundant than the chile. The burger was amazing.
Lumpy’s definitely raises the bar for fast food burgers here in Albuquerque.

I love this place. It is off the beaten path, but worth it! The service was great. You walk up to a window and check off your order on a paper bag, pick out your potatoes and then wait until they call your name. Big portions.
Love it, 1ove it
