What' with all the whining about the location? Hard to find? Not even. Out of the way location? It's on freaking San Mateo in the NE Heights. Honestly people. Just go enjoy some affordable and decent sushi.

Sushi Gen is my favorite sushi bar, it may not be the most trendy, but you can get decent sushi without breaking the bank. There are two ways to get a deal here: 1) Use the coupon in the Alibi newspaper and get 40% off rolls. Good deal, but the Nigiri sushi is not discounted, and you need to pay in cash. 2) All You Can Eat,as mentioned in the article. It is now (June 2009) up to $17.95 lunch, but you can order most Nigiri (that sells for $3.95/2pcs).

My experience mirrors many of the reviews I see. Service can be a bit slow, and it is kind of dark, but the sushi is good and so is the price. Also agree the crunchy roll is great. The Sushi Gen roll is nice too, the Scooping roll (a new product)is $7.20 (with discount),and very large and tasty. If you are not a large eater, this is all you may need.

Sushi Gen is not easy to find, it is the second driveway N of McLeod, past a car dealership and behind Sabroso. Good sushi at a good price.

I have been frequenting Sushi Gen for several years now. I've never seen them at max capacity but I'm sure their location is the main reason for this. Their sushi has always been excellent but don't go there without expecting to spend at least an hour from start to finish.
(Look in the Alibi for a coupon for half off of their rolls!)

Excellent review. This is a perfect example of the need for quality reviews. A bad sushi restaurant is a nightmare, and health hazard, to walk into unknowingly.

I am interested in more information on how to become a reviewer. I am critically in love with food and have already started reviews for friends of mine. I would love to add another outlook on food to this site. I have tried for some time to find contact information, but could not find anything. Would someone please email me with additional information?
